Spending time at parents' house is really an easy excuse for me to pay less attention on a diet. As usual, being at my parents' house is a ticket for me to indulge on everything. But from now on, I have to see this as a challenge and try to find ways to cope.

Yesterday was our first Christmas at my parents house. One of our neighbour who was also there throw me a warm smile, and say hi. But instead of wishing her Merry Christmas, I went with a weird greet. Shake her hand and said, 'my tummy, (pointing at my tummy) this fat, they are growing bigger.' LOL

Actually, I noticed (or maybe it's only me that think so) that she had a short glance on my tummy, so before she asked something like, 'when your due is?',  I thought it's better for me to avoid such awkward question by "warn her" beforehand that my bigger tummy is nothing to do with pregnancy.

Thinking about it, how funny it was. Not an appropriate greet but am simply can't help myself. I just feel so insecure about my appearance, especially my middle part.

Something need to be done.

P/s: My heart goes to all parents in US who lost their children on tragic accident today.

20 Days Before New Year 2013

Be the first to comment!
I feel so devastated.

After lost some weight, I go back to my old eating habit, and I gain back the weight. Quickly. I hate dieting. I hate monotonous eating plan. Or maybe it was I just lazy to plan my meal. I want to go shortcut. I read how Jared Leto lose weight so fast on water fasting. And I'm thinking about another short term water fast before New Year. I want to use this water fast method to kick start a  brand new healthy diet.

But everyday seems like a "first day" for me. I feel like the day will really start but it's not even lunch time that I will start eating — eating a lot  and making myself miserable. Losing weight is really like a mental game. Maybe tonight I should write down on a paper, list down all my favorite foods and say goodbye to them. Who knows, by doing that way I can really parted with them for a while.

How do you survive your diet on the first day?

Marilyn Monroe's Diet and Exercise Routine: How She Stays in Shape

17 Lovely Thoughts
She is one of the most beautiful woman in history. Her on-screen persona was lovable and adorable. And she was one of the most photographed women of her time.

Marilyn Monroe (Source)
Who doesn't know Marilyn Monroe, nowadays? Marilyn Monroe (June 1, 1926 – August 5, 1962) had one of the most famous figure of all time. She was an American actress, a model, and singer, and became a symbol of sex to millions of men worldwide. She may have died 50 years back, yet her slimming secret still raised fan's interest.

Danamo's Marilyn Monroe Pages dug up an 1952 issue of Pageant magazine that listed the bombshell daily diet and exercise routine that helps her stay in shape.

The 5-foot-5 Marilyn who was 26 at print time reveals in the magazine that she was a proponent of strength-training and a high-protein, low-carb diet decades before the trend became hip.

Marilyn Monroe propped up in bed, fixing breakfast while naked between the sheets.

Frankly, I’ve never considered my own figure so exceptional; until quite recently, I seldom gave it any thought at all. My biggest single concern used to be getting enough to eat. Now I have to worry about eating too much. I never used to bother with exercises. Now I spend at least 10 minutes each morning working out with small weights. I have evolved my own exercises, for the muscles I wish to keep firm, and I know they are right for me because I can feel them putting the proper muscles into play as I exercise.

I've read Madonna exercise 2 hours a day, 6 days a week. Her new personal trainer, Nicole Winhoffer coach her through a strenuous workout. But Marilyn Monroe in contrast didn't spend hours exercising every day.

She listen to her body: Marilyn doesn't like to feel regimented.
Pages 122-123 from the September 1952 issue of Pageant; photos copyright © Andr de Dienes.

Each morning, after I brush my teeth, wash my face and shake off the first deep layer of sleep, I lie down on the floor beside my bed and begin my first exercise. It is a simple bust-firming routine which consists of lifting five-pound weights from a spread-eagle arm position to a point directly above my head. I do this 15 times, slowly. I repeat the exercise another 15 times from a position with my arms above my head. Then, with my arms at a 45-degree angle from the floor, I move my weights in circles until I’m tired. I don’t count rhythmically like the exercise people on the radio; I couldn’t stand exercise if I had to feel regimented about it.

Though she married baseball great Joe DiMaggio in 1954, Marilyn had no interest in sport. For her, getting a  tanned skin from sun is not attractive. She prefers to feel blond all over.

Marilyn like to feel blond all over, therefore she opposed to a deep sun-tanned skin.
Pages 124-125 from the September 1952 issue of Pageant; photos copyright © Andr de Dienes.

I have never cared especially for outdoor sports, and have no desire to excel at tennis, swimming or golf. I’ll leave those things to the men. Despite its great vogue in California, I don’t think sun-tanned skin is any more attractive than white skin, or any healthier, for that matter. I’m personally opposed to a deep tan because I like to feel blond all over.
By nature, I suppose I have a languorous disposition. I hate to do things in a hurried, tense atmosphere, and it is virtually impossible for me to spring out of bed in the morning. On Sunday, which is my one day of total leisure, I sometimes take two hours to wake up, luxuriating in every last moment of drowsiness. Depending on my activities, I sleep between five and ten hours every night. I sleep in an extra-wide single bed, and I use only one heavy down comforter over me, summer or winter. I have never been able to wear pajamas or creepy nightgowns; they disturb my sleep.

Diet regime
Marilyn Monroe gained some weight after turning 30, but she slimmed down and was leaner than ever before her death at the age of  36. The starlet start off her day drinking raw eggs mixed with milk. Marilyn Monroe would skip lunch but eat a light dinner based in protein and veggies.

Marilyn also oozes hot fudge sensuality.
Pages 126-127 from the September 1952 issue of Pageant (end of article); photos copyright © Andr de Dienes.
I’ve been told that my eating habits are absolutely bizarre, but I don’t think so. Before I take my morning shower, I start warming a cup of milk on the hot plate I keep in my hotel room. When it’s hot, I break two raw eggs into the milk, whip them up with a fork, and drink them while I’m dressing.
I supplement this with a multi-vitamin pill, and I doubt if any doctor could recommend a more nourishing breakfast for a working girl in a hurry.

My dinners at home are startlingly simple. Every night I stop at the market near my hotel and pick up a steak, lamb chops or some liver, which I broil in the electric oven in my room. I usually eat four or five raw carrots with my meat, and that is all. I must be part rabbit; I never get bored with raw carrots.

P.S. It’s a good thing, I suppose, that I eat simply during the day, for in recent months I have developed the habit of stopping off at Wil Wright’s ice cream parlor for a hot fudge sundae on my way home from my evening drama classes. I’m sure that I couldn't allow myself this indulgence were it not that my normal diet is composed almost totally of protein foods.

So what do you think of Marilyn Monroe's diet?  Was it the one celebrity diet worth following? Let me know your thought in the comments.

Water Fasting for Weight Loss: Jared Leto Water Fast to Get Skinny for His Film Role

1 Comment so far
For overweight person, water fasting is a great way to lose weight real fast. How does it work? During water fasting, you eat no foods and only drink water for some specific period of time. You eating 0 calorie during water fasting and the body will systematically cleanse itself of everything except vital tissue.

But what raises concern about water fasting the most is that this practice could be extremely dangerous. Actor Jared Leto, 40 has shared her fasting experience in the media recently.

'Your body goes through weird stages.

'Sometimes it's hard to hold on to water. But for me, it's not about the most weight I can lose, it's more to represent the character.'

Jared Leto reveal her super skinny frame. Image by Terry Richardson
'Historically, people have done it for pursuit of self, to achieve a meditative state, so I'm hoping for that. It's not necessarily a bad thing.'

The actor has starved himself for a month, shaved off most of his body hair to play the role of a HIV-positive transsexual woman in the Dallas Buyers Club. Water fasting can be so tempted when you're starving yourself and you're watching your co-stars munch on their lunch. But Leto is said to be very committed, he is still starving himself on the set of the Dallas Buyers Club for the sake of art. However the actor did not give details of how much he has lost for the Dallas Buyers Club.

Weight Loss Story: Morbidly Obese Mom Lost 51kg in a Year

2 Lovely Thoughts
Cacia before losing her weight with her daughter Isabelle. Image by Scribblers

She was so fat that she broke her daughter's bed while reading her a bedtime story. While on a family trip to Turkey last year, she couldn't fit the aeroplane seatbelt around her. She kept putting off her wedding date because she afraid of wouldn't find a dress that fitted here.

It's not that she never tried to lose weight before, but Cacia Griggs, 26 just never had the motivation to continue a diet after another diet. A newspaper article was her wake up call to lose weight. She said: 'The article explained how daughters of obese mothers were much more likely to grow up to be obese themselves.

'The thought of subjecting my beautiful little girl to a lifetime of weight-battling misery and ill-health was too much for me to bear. In that moment, I knew I had to make a change and it had to be now' 'It might as well have been written about me and my daughter. She was already starting to copy my bad eating habits, asking for the fizzy drinks and junk food that I was eating.'

Cacia was morbidly obese size 24 at 18-stone (114 kg) when she began the Cambridge Weight Plan in June 2011. One year later she lost eight stone, dropped to a size 10, by simply swapping her high-calorie diet for soups, shakes and bars. She finally be able to wear her dream wedding dress on her wedding to fiance Chris. But instead of wearing the size 16 that she'd bought as her incentive to lose weight, she ended up wearing size 10 dress in her wedding.

Losing weight really change Cacia's life. She wears no more black clothing and baggy tops. And the best part about losing weight is she is able to lay with her daughter again on her bed instead of sitting on the floor next to her.

Cacia has now been crowned Cambridge Weight Plan's Slimmer of the Year in August this year after dropped 14 dress sizes, and reached her goal weight of 10 stone (63 kg).

Fever (Adult and Children): 3 Non -Drugs Alternatives to Treat Fever

2 Lovely Thoughts
Fever is technically any body temperature above the normal oral measurement of 98.6° F (37° C). According to MedicineNet, fever is part of the body's defense against infections. Although fever can be a good thing, a high fever itself can be considered dangerous. High fevers, usually a body temperature over 108°F (42° C) can cause brain damage.

Fever can be reduced by taking ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, Nuprin), acetaminophen (Tylenol and others) or paracetamol (Panadol). But instead of drugs, there's a step to reduce a fever using natural home remedies.

1. Blady grass root to reduce fever
Natural resources: Lalang or cogongrass and the roots of cogongrass
Image from - Hikmah Sejati and Forest Explorers

Blady grass, known as lalang in Malaysia and cogongrass (USA) or its scientific name, Imperata Cylindrica is said can relieve fever. It is a species of grass that grow fast and wild in the open. It spreads through small seeds, which are easily carried by the wind. To cure fever, dig out a handful of grass root and wash. The roots and be dried and stored for future use. Combine the grass root with an approximately four glasses of water into a boiling pot. Once at the boiling point, reduce heat and simmer until only 2 glasses of water remains. Drink like a tea while it is warm 3 times a day. Add rock sugar or honey if you prefer a sweeter taste.

My mom used to have me drink this 'cogongrass tea' whenever I got fever when I was little. She didn't mix with any sweeteners and the taste sucks! Though it's bitter to the taste but it works wonderfully. Everytime.

2. Take a bath with a grated old coconut

Old Coconut and freshly grated coconut. Image from 123rf and  Cooking Varieties Nusantara

Use grated old coconut as a scrub. Gently rub the grated old coconut all over your body. This method often use on children who suspected to have measles.Coconut oil is easily absorbed by the body, all the heat went to the grated coconut and can help reduce fever. It makes the rash come out well too. Old folks don't use to give medicines to a child who get measles because they are afraid the rash does not come out well.

3. Use damp clothes
Fever - source

Everybody knows this trick, am sure. Soak a washcloth in a bowl of cool water and place it on your forehead to cool your body down and reduce the fever. Apply damp cloth on legs, feet, and neck but make sure the cloth is warm. Excess application may cause shivering and increase body temperature.

Cure a fever at home
I have found 3 cheapest treatment to cure fever at home. It always work wonders. Do you have any home remedies for fevers that help you feel better fast? Please share in the comments.

I had an over indulgence yesterday, and I'd like to say I regret it. Should I blame my hormonal changes for it?

But past is past.

I woke up this morning with a positive energy. I say to myself, I am going to get back to a healthy eating  pattern --- no more sugary foods, try to eliminate carbs, drinks a lot of water, and prepare myself for a water fast, the plan I have failed before.

Then I walked past the dining table, head straight to the kitchen to prepare breakfast for the kids. But wait, I saw the mooncakes my husband brought back home last night. They were on the table, still untouched.  I unwrapped one of the cake and cut into 4 equal pieces. One taste good. I ate another piece when later I realize that I have just finished an entire cake.
1 mooncake = 800 calorie. Oops!

I need to find ways to get back on track. HAPPY MOONCAKE FESTIVAL everyone.

Binge Eating of the Month

Be the first to comment!
I am being seriously emotional today. Feeling stressed out for no reason. The worst is I've lost count of how many calories have I had today. I eat and eat and eat to fill my emptiness.

Emptiness? Why do I suddenly feel empty and worthless?

I checked the calendar and oh yeah...Miss P is going to visit me next week.

It's no wonder I have this miserable mood swings today. I tend to lose my temper over some little thing when I am near to my period. I will start to get weird food cravings and eat a lot but still not feel satisfied.

Girls out there, does anyone of you regularly binge eat before your period?

P/s: Dear husband, sorry if I ever use you as an emotional punching bag when I'm on my period :p Thanks for always being so understanding.

Goodbye Eyelashes Extension!

Be the first to comment!

Goodbye eyelashes extension. See you next month!

My real eyelashes are very short. Eyes are the windows to the soul. Curvy, thick, and long eyelashes is always attractive. They add zing to the eyes and make it beautiful. It's hard to deny that long curl eyelashes can be a powerful weapon of seduction. Just look at Kim Kardashian heart-melting lashes. And I make my weight loss goal this month, to lose at least 4kg. As a reward I'll get myself the gorgeous eyelashes extension.

But it only less than a week before the month of September ends. I am not even close to my goal. I started at 67.9kg when I attempt to start over a water fast two weeks ago. I lost a good number of 2kg  during the period. But then I lost my focus. And from 65.5kg, I went back to 66.7kg. It's actually only 1 more kg to lose before I reach this month's goal. Gaining 1 kg in 3 days isn't that difficult. But losing half a kilo in a week is damn hard!

I have a friend's wedding to attend this weekend. So I gotta say, I've lost my chance to shows off my killer looking eyelash extensions. LOL.

Time frame is not important, as my weight loss buddy use to say.

I agree that it is better to maintain a moderate weight loss over a prolonged period than to regain from a marked weight loss.

But one way for me to stay motivated (and keep getting up after failing one) as I try to lose is by setting a weight loss goal within a reasonable time frame.

My ultimate goal is to lose 20kg, but I'm looking forward to lose at least 8kg before Christmas.

Goodbye eyelash extension, for now. I'll get you in 4 weeks time.

Rapid Weight Loss Techniques

This is a guest post from Loukman Weight Loss. If you are interested to submit a guest to Healthy Beautiful Blog, here's how to do it.
Hey ! Other than physical appearance weight affects a person in many ways. This could be the overall quality of life, self-esteem, depression, health risks, and physical incapabilities. There are a lot of positive changes once a person experience weight loss. It is for this reason why a lot of people are searching for a weight loss technique that will surely trim down those fats and get a super slim head turner body.

The first thing that an over-weight should do is seek a doctor to recommend the best weight loss regimen. This will be done after a full physical examination, which leads to the determination of proper weight loss technique. And to lose weight fast and effectively four aspects of life should be changed: what to eat, how to eat, behavior and activity level.

Here are fast tips that can change an over-weight's life:

First: Fast weight loss composes of a multi-faceted technique that consists mindset, exercise, and in other cases, diet supplements. Begin by learning a diet food plan that can easily be accustomed with. Incorporate an exercise plan that allows even at least fifteen minutes a day like brisk walking, running, swimming, and dancing.

Second: Set realistic approaches. The ability to focus and have proper mindset enables someone on a diet to quickly lose those extra pounds. With discipline and proper mind set, a dieter will never be discouraged and lose focus.

Third: Listen as the body speaks. Each and everyone's body metabolism reacts differently to different fast weight loss programs and plans. Try substituting one program for another to compensate the body's reaction. Exercise program must be suitable to one's body, as others are not able to exercise as rigorously as others can. If walking is all that can be done, then walk for this is proven the best exercise. Muscles burn more calories than fats so it's also best to put on a little muscle and looking good too.

Fourth: Eat more fibers for it makes a person full sooner and stays in the tummy longer, slowing down the rate of digestion. A single serving of whole grain bread moves fat through the digestive system faster. Grains turn into blood sugar that spikes the body's insulin level. Thus, making the body more energized and ready to tell the body when it should stop burning fats or start storing.

Fifth: Keep away from fried foods especially deep-fried as this contains a great amount of fat. Although fish and chicken appear leaner than beef, this white meat can contain more fat than when a beef is fried. It is recommended for those on strict diet to opt for grilled food as this does not have or contain less amount of fat after the food is cooked.

Sixth: Takes lots of fluid. Drinking at least six to eight glasses of water a day keeps the body refreshed. Since weight loss depends on how the body eliminates body wastes, the body must stay hydrated.

All in all, discipline and consistency is still the best practice and the key to a rapid weight loss success. Light dieting, workout, and right amount of supplementation applied in a regular way everyday will result in faster weight loss than having a massive action only to be followed a return to old habits as this would only lead to gaining more weight than when the weight loss plan has started.

Caesar Salad with Sautéed Shrimp Recipe

2 Lovely Thoughts
King of Salad: Homemade salad by Lysda

Contrary to its name, Caesar salad is not named after a famous Roman emperor. Instead, the most spectacular salad in the world is originated at restaurant in Tijuana in Mexico. The salad's creation is attributed to Caesar Cardini, an Italian born Mexican who invented it in 1924. The salad also gain popularity when Manny Wolfe, a Hollywood screenwriter for Paramount, began distributing the recipe around to various restaurants in the United States in 1937. Today there are various versions of caesar salad. This is our own version of the classic caesar salad.

1 large green and red coral lettuce
2 kiwi fruits - skinned and sliced
50g anchovy filets, stir-fried

Sautéed shrimp:
1/2 kg uncooked shrimp, large, peeled and deveined
2 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
2 Tbsp olive oil
1 clove garlic, crushed
Oyster sauce, salt, and pepper to taste

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon dry mustard
2 tablespoon lemon juice (fresh is best)
1 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
1 teaspoon coarse ground salt
2 egg yolks for large eggs -- at room temperature*
1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
1/4 cup parmesan cheese -- shredded or shaved

1. Trim the green coral lettuce and red coral lettuce of bruised or browned leaves, then tear the leaves with your hand into 1 ½ inch pieces. Wash and drain the lettuce, pat it dry and refrigerate for 30 minutes to crisp the leaves.

2. Prepare sautéed shrimp: Heat butter and olive oil in small saucepan over medium high heat. Add garlic and sauté until mixture is simmering and garlic is fragrant. Add shrimp and stir in lemon juice over shrimp. Season with oyster sauce, salt and pepper to taste. Sauté until shrimp are bright pink and cooked through, about 3 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside until ready to use.

3. Place lettuce on salad bowl. Place dressing ingredients in a mixing bowl. Mix well, then drizzle dressing over salad.

4. Arrange kiwi slices and crisp anchovies around. Add sautéed shrimp to the top of the salad and serve immediately.

  • The original recipe of this salad add crouton to add flavor. To make the croutons, cut the French bread into cubes, heat the 1/2 cup olive oil in a sauté pan over medium-high heat. Fry the bread cubes in the oil, tossing frequently, until they're crisp and golden. Drain the croutons on a paper towel until ready to use.
  • The classic Caesar salad also use raw egg or partially cooked eggs in the dressing, which in our version, we omit the egg. Instead we use hard-boiled egg. Raw eggs may carry salmonella bacteria, so it's a good idea that babies, young children, and pregnant women avoid it.

How to Lose Belly Fat: 5 Exercises to Lose Belly Fat

1 Comment so far
When speaking about body conscious, my big fat belly is the part of my body that I am concern a lot. People always mistaken me as being pregnant. Though I know that they are never meant to be rude, to be question about when I will due when I am not pregnant is just an awkward situation. Crunches is often a recommended exercise to lose belly fat, but I hate doing them because it cause me to have neck and lower back pain.
I found out that Scissor Kick exercise is much flexible and fun in some way to lose belly fat. The exercise is much less strenuous. Now we can stop relying on crunches to lose belly fat as there is other ways to lose the belly fat you're carrying around. Try this 5 exercises to lose belly fat from Prevention.

What you need:
Open wall space (4 to 6 feet) and a mat. Resistance band is optional.

How to do it:

  • Perform the routine barefoot 4 or 5 times a week.
  • Do 10 slow, controlled reps of each move. If that's too difficult, do the Make it Easier variation. Not challenging enough? Try the Make it Harder version.
  • For faster results: Do 2 sets of each exercise and add 30 minutes or more of cardio most days of the week.

1. Wall Bridge
(tones back, butt)

  • Lie on back with butt against wall, arms at sides, knees bent, and feet planted 3 to 4 feet up wall.
  • Exhale and peel lower and mid back off floor, keeping shoulder blades down, so body forms a nearly straight line from chest to knees.
  • Hold for a deep inhale, then exhale and slowly roll back down.

  • Cross right ankle over left knee so only left foot is on wall, then roll up, pause, and lower.
  • Do the full number of reps, then switch feet.

Don't use the wall. Keep feet flat on floor as you lift into a bridge; pause and slowly lower.

2. Windshield Wipers
(tones inner and outer thighs)

  • From Wall Bridge starting position, extend legs straight up against wall so body forms an L.
  • Inhale and slowly lower left leg down wall like a clock arm toward 9 o'clock; exhale and return to start.
  • Repeat with right leg, sweeping toward 3 o'clock. Continue to alternate legs until you've completed all reps.

  • Wrap an exercise band around left foot and hold both ends beside opposite hip for added resistance as you sweep left foot down wall.
  • Do all reps, then switch legs and repeat.

Move 3 to 6 inches away from wall so torso and legs form a wider angle.

3. Toe Reaches
(tones abs)

  • Return to Windshield Wipers starting position, hands on belly.
  • Keeping abs tight and chin tucked slightly toward chest, lift head, shoulders, and upper back, reaching right hand toward left foot.
  • Lower and repeat reaching left hand to right foot. Continue to alternate until you've completed all reps.

  • Stack feet, left heel against right toes.
  • Reach right hand to left side of feet, then left hand to right side.
  • Do the full number of reps on each side.

Lift only head and shoulders off floor as you reach toward knees.

4. Wall Scissor
(tones butt, backs of thighs)

  • From Toe Reaches start position, bend knees to plant feet on wall.
  • Peel back off floor, keeping shoulder blades down, and step feet up wall so body forms a diagonal line from feet to chest.
  • Bend elbows and support lower back with hands; keep shoulder blades, upper arms, and head on floor.
  • Lower left leg toward head as far as you can, keeping both legs straight and abs tight. Return to wall and lower right leg.
  • Continue to alternate until you've completed all reps.

  • As you lower leg, pause and pulse 2 or 3 times, moving it up and down an inch or two, before returning it back to wall.
  • Repeat with opposite leg.

Scoot body 3 to 6 inches away from wall so wall supports more weight.

5. Knee Press
(tones butt, fronts and backs of thighs)

  • Lie on back, butt against wall, knees bent, and feet planted 3 to 4 feet up wall.
  • Peel lower and mid back off floor and cross left ankle over right knee.
  • Squeeze butt and front of thigh to press left knee toward wall.
  • Do 20 pulses, then lower body and repeat on opposite side.

As you press knee, engage abs to lift and lower hips a couple of inches with each rep.

Do the move with feet and back on floor

Let's do this together and see if we can get some result after 2 weeks. Of course losing belly fat is best accomplished if we combine this exercise with cardio exercise, healthy diet and this 3 right mindset to lose belly fat
